PROJECT LANCIA

Timeline

09/07/06 - eBay auctions ends. Jerry buys a race car!

09/21/06 - Car arrives from South Carolina via car transporter. It looks even better in person!

09/23/06 - Road trip to Fayetteville, Arkansas to pick up other parts that go with the car.

09/24/06 - Sunday afternoon inspection and brainstorming. What color should it be - red-and-white, red-and-black? How about a turbo?

09/26/06 - The work begins. Removed: headlights & turn signals (were wire-tied/duct-taped on), driving lights, grill, radiator, rear panel w/ tail lights, water pump, starter, side/quarter windows, seat belts. Robert Vick from Vick Autosports stops by to check out the little jewel-in-the-rough. Robert makes a case for a supercharged 2 liter.

09/27/06 - Removed: windshield, dash & guages, driver's seat, wiring, oil cooler hoses. Fuel cell out and opened for cleanup.

09/28/06 - Fuel cell cleaned and ready for new foam. Removed everything from the engine compartment except block and transmission. More general cleanup. Trial fit race c-pillar panels. More brainstorming and picture taking. Maybe paint the car what appears to be the original orange-ish red?

09/29/06 - Engine is out. Doors and hinges are off. Interior stripped of everything except steering wheel, clutch/brake pedals, shifter and brake/fuel lines running down the console area.

09/30/06 - Transmission and shafts are out. Brake calipers loose. Fuel lines removed. Coolant tubes under car removed. Greg Gordon ( Hi Performance Store ) also makes a case for a supercharger.

10/04/06 - Rear fenders are removed.

10/07/06 - Power washer is 'tool of the day'. Car is taken to Jerry's house for a lot of power washing. A LOT of bits of rubber from the race tires is still found in the inner fenders. All the rivets that can be removed are gone.

10/10/06 - 2 liter engine is harvested from 1981 Fiat. Much discussion is had regarding what head should be used. Also discussion about the use of X1/9 pistons and boring the engine out to 2.2 liters. Those in favor of turbocharging are really working on Jerry...

10/13/06 - 2 liter engine is taken to be cleaned.

01/20/07 - Working on a cover for the engine compartment similar to the one seen in the original photo. This cover sits on the roofline of the car, not horizontally just over the engine like on the original Scorpion. Jerry has built a wood mockup, made a mold and delivered it to a fiberglass company. We should soon have a cover ready to fit and install a plexiglass window in.

01/27/07 - Jerry and Garrick travel to Houston to get the modified 2 liter Volumex engine.

01/28/07 - Jerry, Garrick, Bob Dezzany and Jon Hendricks ( Jon Hendricks Restoration ) meet at Project Lancia World Headquarters to discuss bodywork, media-blasting the chassis and plans for the car.

01/29/07 - Jerry picks up the rear hatch and takes it for trial fitting and trimming. It is then returned to the fiberglass shop for finishing. Jerry also begins trying to find tires for 13 inch wheels that are approximately 10 inches wide in front and 12 inches wide in back.

3/19/07 - The wheels are taken to Norwood Performance for inspection to make sure they are worth refinishing. The wheels look good and will be refinished.

3/22/07 - The car is at the media blaster, Doug's Auto Craft, to be thouroughly cleaned up and primered.

4/3/07 - Project Lancia is picked up from Doug's Auto Craft with a trailer and transported to Zig's Auto Werks. Zig's will be doing some work on the rear fenders and the bonnet.

4/10/07 - Jerry takes suspension pieces to Vick Racing for Robert Vick's review.

4/11/07 - Jerry drops off the header for ceramic coating. Suspension pieces are taken to have old bushings replaced.
